Holiday weekend

The pool before anyone can have lunch.

Once upon a time I actually was an okay swimmer.  I was so impressed with Chris swimming lap after lap.  My arms are so weak and the rhythm of my breathing so poor that I don't do laps enough. to improve on either.

I am not sure exactly how this game of basketball was going.  I suspect that Sydney was helping Kristin out by moving the net so the ball would drop in.  😊

We did not catch any of the many smiles on this guy's face, but I did like this one.

Timeout.  Bridger is chilling to some music, Chris is checking his phone and Noah is wondering when his dad is going to get back into the pool and play with him again..

Sydney and Kristin taking it easy

This the usual amount of umbrellas set out each day.

On Independence Day almost every spot on this grass will be covered by a person, a tent, a chair, or a grill for cooking steaks and hot dogs.

No idea where the flag is except that it was pretty early in the morning.

Behind me is a person watching over this wide array of objects used by scuba divers.

Flowers

Almost every inch of sand on the beach by the hotel/club was covered with umbrellas, little tables, and chairs with towels draped across them.

In past summers we have never seen this type of bird alone.  They are always fishing in twos or threes.  We have no idea why this one is alone this year. They are fast movers and hard to get a good picture of.  I think this one above is extremely good.

The great egret has a wingspan of nearly 5 feet.

An article from the San Diego Tribune

There is a large flat rock to my right that people frequently climb up on to take pictures of themselves. Sitting on this slanting rock was challenging enough.  This is part of the beach that we don't usually capture in pictures.

You need to enlarge this picture quite a bit to see that the tent behind me to my left has a couple of feet sticking out of the doorway. I assume the owner came early to set up the camp for his family and is now fast asleep on his stomach making up for his lost sleep.

Dad putting his sandals on after washing the sand off his feet.  We had a fairly long walk to where the car was parked.  But much closer than I was anticipating.

Looking back towards the beach with the lifeguard station prominent and dozens of umbrellas, canopies, and tents.

Lots of grills have been dragged to the park for a cookout today.

A large family must have staked out this spot of green for themselves for later.

Just across the corner from the park and beach.

One of the several restaurants that line the street.  The other business is dominated by rentals or lessons for ocean sports.

Stopping in La Jolla village to take a picture.  The ocean is in the background.
