The beach on July 5th.
We really need to figure out what the setting on the camera is for backlight. It is almost impossible to take a picture facing the east even when the sun is behind the clouds.
This is what the morning looked like when we first got to the beach. Absolutely gorgeous.
When we reached the end of the beach and turned north, we were so surprised. The north end of the beach was blanketed in fog. We could not see the pier. In fact we could not see for very many yards in front of us.
Facing south with the pier behind me lost in the marine layer.
It was amazing how quickly the mist and fog covered the beach.
The north end of the beach was cloaked in fog. Somewhere back there is Scripps Pier.
No idea what this tiny guy was doing so far from the rocks and the ocean. It was just scampering across the sand headed for water. Fortunately it was willing to pause for a photo.
The park area at the north end was all set up for a wedding. It included an arch trellis for the couple to stand under. It was also surrounded with yellow tape that said Caution on it.
The highlight of our trip to the beach this morning was seeing three women wearing burqinis entering the water on the beach. Another woman who was with them did not have a swimsuit on but was knee deep in the ocean with an outfit similar to the ones worn by her friends. Of course, we did not ask if we could take a picture of them. We saw them in the water as we were walking north. The lifeguard truck stopped close to them and with a bull horn the lifeguard told them to get out of the water. It did occur to me that they might not speak English. He explained that they were in an area with a dangerous rip tide. They needed to go further south on the beach. We didn't stay to see what happened. I suspect that it took a couple of minutes for the women to realize that the life guard was talking to them.
Their swimwear was similar to this. The skirt was longer like this one is and the outfit was blue and black. When I went to the shower to wash off my feet all three of the girls came to shower off too. One of them spoke English/American with no hint of accent. They other two were conversing in another language. They were young adults and just beautiful. At least I thought so. The city has the water "rationed" again. I showed one of the girls that if she held down the button the water would continue to come out. They were a delightful addition to our day.
