All of the salt and pepper that I have encountered here is interesting. The salt is ground so fine that I cannot even see it coming out of the shaker. The best way for me to apply it to anything is to shake some into the palm of my hand. That way at least I know that there is salt coming out. The pepper is the same way. It has the advantage of adding some color when you shake it onto your salad.
I wonder what the history is behind this difference in salt and pepper. I have seen sea salt on the grocer's shelf but it says that it is finely ground also.
Maybe if I went to a large store I would see a salt and pepper that contains contents to grind freshly. So far although we have seen spices and herbs for sale I have not seen any ground spices or herbs.
We don't have a meal again with the faculty until Sunday night. I hope I can remember to ask if anyone knows the answer. In our apartment the salt is in the shaker with only one hole. Pepper can come out more freely. I suspect it is because you cannot see how much of the fine salt you are sprinkling on your food.
