The Flood

Yesterday was a Sunday I will probably always remember. We were almost ready to walk to church when I heard a gushing noise. It was our bathroom and the valve on the sink had come loose. We had hot water spewing all over the place. Two of our neighbors who were not dressed for church (they go to a later meeting) came and bailed. By the time we got hold of the caretaker of the building, the water was running out of the ceiling below over the stairs. Could have been worse could have been in an apartment for all we knew. Earl dressed to go church finally found Alvaro and he brought tools upstairs to shut off the water. And no one but me complained about the boiling hot water coming out of the pipe. Fortunately, everyone but me had tough shoes that helped to protect their feet. We have a pedestal sink and it does not have shut off taps or valves. I don't ever want one in my house We finally got the mess cleaned up. No one in our side of the building had a clean towel left. I tried to build a dam to keep the water from pouring onto the carpet. It sorta worked. And we got to Church half way through sacrament meeting. The patch of carpet is finally feeling as if some day it will dry. We are so grateful to our neighbors for their help. We would not have survived without them. Our apartment would have been flooded and so would the stairs below.

PS. If this had been a regular day none of us would have been around at that hour to stop a complete disaster.
Pps No one had time to take any pictures.  We do have a very well sterilized floor.

Pictures of our stairwell.
