Hamburg
The Professor and I actually spent a day in Hamburg several years ago. The sights were familiar but I enjoyed being a tourist while the Professor went to meetings and lectured
The Professor has a very keen sense of direction. As we wander around a new city or in Paris, he will say that we need to go in "this" direction. And he is right. Without the mountains in the east in Utah, I am completely lost. When I set out alone in the late afternoon in Hamburg, I was definitely worried. I have been known to get lost and walk in circles as predictably as any pathfinder would say.
While the Professor went to lecture at a location in a city called Kiel outside of Hamburg, I took the map and all of my courage and set off to see some of the city. We were located close to a train station and it was late afternoon. People were rushing everywhere. I had studied the map and had decided that I would walk across a bridge. As I was walking with the flow of pedestrian traffic, I realized that all of the people took a corner going to the right while I went straight ahead alone. I retraced my steps and followed the crowd. Under an interesting pedestrian bridge and down a street closed off to traffic. It was lined with shops and had totally different shops and eating places in the basements of the old buildings.
At the end of this road were the river and the lots of upscale shopping and the town hall/rathaus..
Western or cowboy/girl boots
Those are Paul Bunyan's boots by the front door.
Though I am pretty sure he never wore boots to sit on a horse.
He must have only worn work boots suited to a lumber jack.
In the distance I could see a church spire. I decided that I would walk to that church and no further. Surely I could find my way back to the hotel from there.
It was a good decision. Someone was practicing playing the organ at St.Peter's church.
I sat and listened for awhile. In fact it was starting to get dark when I left the church.
