The Paris Museum of Romantic Life

We set out this morning to find the Musee de la Vie romantique.  It is one of only a few museums owned by the municipal of Paris.  Therefore it is free and open to the public. If you follow the link above you will find a page of museums.  Scroll down until you get to the house with green shutters:

This atmosphere museum has kept the lure of the bygone-day Nouvelle Athènes quarter townhouses untouched. It once belonged to painter Ary Scheffer and his nephew by marriage Ernest Renan, and became a shrine to writer George Sand, one of the Romanticism’s leading lights. Across the courtyard, you will find the atelier where Ary Scheffer worked – and met Chopin, Liszt, Lamartine, Tourgueniev, Delacroix and other celebrities – from 1830 to 1858.

If you click on the above download on the municipal page, you will get an English guide to the museum.  It is an excellent brochure with many of the portraits hanging in the house of Ary Scheffer.

When we got to the private drive leading to the house, we discovered the camera battery was still plugged in at the apartment charging. Because of this I am resorting to using some pictures online.

A special thanks to "Tweedlandthegenlemansclub" for the great photographs.  Every other picture online was by someone wanting to sell the pictures.  This web site also has interesting information about Scheffer and the many famous people who visited him at his home.

The garden just as it looked today in the winter.

Studio with a glass roof is located on the left side of the house next to the garden.
