Friday on foot
Today is the first of April and our metro passes have expired. We are only going to be in Paris for about ten more days. What to do about traveling? Tomorrow we go to the airport to fly to Vienna. Today we saw part of the city while walking.
We were interested in the open and very ornate gate. Usually gates like this are locked. Of course, we understood why it was open to the public when we saw the sign.
The doors are at the rear of the building.
A much bigger store than I have ever seen.
Apparently Abercrombie & Fitch are doing well.
The American Cathedral in Paris sits right on the street. Almost impossible to get
a picture of the building's exterior.
A very familiar sight
Painting of the cathedral by Jean Bernaud
I think the addition of the stained glass windows to the original painting are interesting.
Private courtyard at the cathedral
Winston Churchill "we shall never surrender."
Awnings or tents are being put up along av. de la Motte Picquet in preparation for
an annual antique market tomorrow.
Only the onion dome is visible on the Russian Orthodox cathedral.
It is the first of several domes that will be placed here.
Artist's impression of the finished cathedral.

Sedan chair (Circa 1700-1715) Paris
This figures playing orchestra instruments on this ornate clock
are monkeys. You have to look closely to see that they are not people.
In my opinion it looks better and more impressive at a distance.
This is not a very sharp picture of the clock. The extraordinary quality of this
time piece is that it was working and it was showing the correct time. Almost
twenty after twelve.
Pont Alexandre II
Memorial to Princess Diana by the Pont Alma
This year marks the 100th year since the WW I battle of Verdun.
The street has a display of pictures from the area today.
A pill box where someone could watch the battle and give radioed
information about where to bombard the enemy.
