Victor Hugo
Most of the pictures that I took at the house of Victor Hugo on Place des Vosges did not come out. The one floor on display has all sorts of chandeliers and wall lights and of course, you have to use no flash. The lighting in most of the pictures is not very good.
This painting is of Esmeralda giving water to Quasimoto who is tied up. A shocked and angry mob looks on.
The woman sitting with the children read some excerpts from the Hunchback of Notre Dame. She also talked to them about the house would have been like in Victor Hugo's time. It was certainly not warm as it is now to create a good environment for the artifacts and paintings house there. I was enchanted with the room with one wall covered with china.
Walking down this colonnade to the corner leads one right into the center courtyard of the Hotel Sully. Although I have been there several times before, I was not prepared for the impact that I felt simply looking into the open space. It is so beautiful and it is winter.
In the fall of 2007 the Professor and I came to Paris with 21 students. Most of them were Brigham Young University students and all but one of them were girls. It did not take long for someone in our group to recognize that this "wheel" in the courtyard made a perfect frame. Probably almost everyone had her picture taken in the circle. Including the old wife of the professor.
