Leaving Utah

We had the smoothest and easiest trip that we could possibly have.  The Professor's suitcase was 46 pounds and mine was 53 but the United desk did not make any comment on my 3 extra pounds.  We were selected to avoid going through screening so we just went through the metal detector and were able to leave on our shoes and leave our liquids and computers in the carry on luggage.
Both flights went well.  The flight to Paris from SF had lots of empty seats.  I slept for only a short time because my legs kept bothering me and I just could not get comfortable.
Going through immigration was a breeze.  I am not sure the officer checked to see if we looked like our passport pictures.  And when we got to the luggage pick-up, our suitcases were already there.  We took a cab and it went great.  Because there was hardly any traffic on a Saturday morning so we arrived quickly at the apartment with a reasonable fare.
I almost immediately fell asleep while the Professor unpacked his suitcases and hung his clothes up.  I woke up around four pm and we went shopping on rue Cler since shops close early on Saturday.  It was very busy.  As the Professor said, it was like Saturday night at Day's market in Provo.
We now have a few things in our pantry.
The kitchen is so much nicer than it was in 2007.  However, we were really spoiled by the apartment in Helsinki.  This is very humble compared to it.  For one thing the kitchen in Helsinki was huge with masses of cabinets.  It was large enough to have a table to eat on in the middle of the floor.  Oh well, this is nice even if it doesn't compare to the Finnish Fulbright's apartment on Liisankatu.
We are struggling to get computers going and figuring out the television and telephone.  I will call someone when Dad figures things out.  I am just glad to have the computer to send you a note.  Looks like we need to have Ri-chard come look at the phone and television.

  2. No. This is not our picture but there was even less of the top of the tower showing that night. So foggy.

  3. I love hearing about your travels so far. I hope that your little apartment will quickly become a home with all of your love and TLC and that you will find great joy there! How long was your travel time from entering the SLC airport to exiting Roissy Airport?
